Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Josh Costa (Sutton, Mass.) had a goal and an assist as Castleton cruised to a 3-0 win over Husson University in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Boucher Stadium. With the win Castleton improves to 11-5 and wraps up a perfect 7-0 conference slate for the first time in program history. At 7-0 Castleton is assured the top seed in the upcoming NAC Tournament for the first time since 2007 when the Spartans went on to earn the conference title. The defending champion Eagles fall to 3-11, 2-4.
Costa set up Trevor Kotrady (North Clarendon, Vt.) in the 19th minute of play for what proved to be the game-winner. Costa played a through pass to Kotrady, setting him up for a one-on-one opportunity with Husson keeper Mason Smith (Houma, La.) and the sophomore forward buried his sixth goal of the season.
Just over eight minutes later Costa struck for his league-leading 10th goal of the season. Nick Johnas (Niskayuna, N.Y.) played a cross into the box where Costa was able to redirect it past Smith with his head.
Castleton tacked on its third goal of the contest just over 15 minutes after the interval as Ian Hunter (Ellington, Conn.) headed home his second of the season, converting a Jacob Ferry (Warwick, R.I.) assist.
The Spartans controlled play throughout, outshooting the host Eagles 26-6 on the afternoon. Smith ended the day with 10 saves in the loss, while Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) stopped a pair of shots to earn his first collegiate shutout.
Castleton returns to action on Wednesday when the Spartans play host to Plymouth State at 4 pm in their final regular season home game of the season.
