Box Score Northfield, VT - Marie VanDerKar scored a game-high eight goals, and Nicole Adams added three goals and three assists as Castleton knocked off Norwich, 20-16, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon at Howard Field.
Norwich (6-2) was led by Kacey Abbriano, who scored a team-high six goals. Danielle Del Dotto and Chelsea Martin each netted three goals apiece for the Cadets, who saw their six-game win streak come to an end.
The Cadets got off to a fast start, racing out to a 6-2 lead at the 16:54 mark of the first half. Abbriano tallied three of her six goals during the run. Five goals by VanDerKar fueled a 10-3 spurt by Castleton, which gave the Spartans a 12-9 lead with 1:47 to play. Martin's unassisted goal at the 1:21 mark drew Norwich to 12-10 at halftime.
Castleton (8-1) scored the first two goals of the second half, but three quick tallies by Norwich cut the Cadets' deficit down to 14-13 at the 23:03 mark. That was as close as NU would get, however, as Castleton netted the next two markers and never saw its lead dip below two goals the rest of the way.
Kellie Pickel took the loss in the Norwich goal, making 11 saves, while Francesca Mazzola stopped three shots in earning the win.
Castleton takes its seven game winning-streak into Bridgewater on Saturday for a 1:00 pm battle of New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance unbeatens.
