Box Score Leicester, MA - Marie VanDerKar scored nine goals and dished out three assists, while Nicole Adams scored three goals and added nine helpers to lead Castleton to a 28-12 win over Becker College in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action on Saturday afternoon.
Elizabeth Haggerty scored the first of her five goals to open the scoring just 16 seconds into the first half off a Stephanie Pearce assist. Pearce converted off the first of Adams's nine assists off the ensuing draw to quickly make it 2-0. Tammy Mullen answered for the Hawks to make it 2-1, but three straight Castleton goals, two by VanDerKar and one by Aimee Goulette, all assisted by Adams put the game out of reach for good.
Pearce wound up with four goals and two assists as Castleton improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Stephanie Paproski added three goals, while Jennifer Macari chipped in two and Katelyn Greene one. Francesca Mazzola stopped one shot, before being relieved by Rebecca Duszak who stopped three for the Spartans.
Mullen led the Hawks (3-4, 0-1) with six goals, while Nicole Lijana added three, Morgan Hazen two and Renee Landry one. Alena Phongsa stopped 11 shots in the loss.
Castleton returns to action on Tuesday when the Spartans travel to Fitchburg State for a NEWLA match-up at 1:00 pm.
