Castleton downed at Skidmore

Saratoga Springs, NY - The Castleton State College women's lacrosse game lost its first game on the young season, falling 17-6 at Skidmore College Monday evening at Wachenheim Field.

Castleton jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Stephanie Pearce converted unassisted 1:05 into the contest. Skidmore answered with four-straight goals to break the game open, including two by Kimberly Segalas who scored a game-high six and added two assists.

Marie VanDerKar cut the lead to 4-2 off a Nicole Adams assist, but Skidmore once again realed off four unanswered goals, before Adams made it 8-3 with a free position score just prior to halftime.

Pearce and VanDerKar each tallied two goals, while Adams had a pair of assists to go with her lone goal as Castleton's record evens out at 1-1.

Francesca Mazzola stopped 10 shots, before being lifted during the second half. Rebecca Duszak made five saves over the final 20 minutes of action.

Castleton will play host to Green Mountain College Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
