Castleton cruises to 23-5 victory over Fitchburg State

Castleton, VT-Nicole Bouchard scored five goals and handed out four assists as Castleton State College cruised to a 23-5 victory over Fitchburg State in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action at Alumni Field.

Bouchard, who became the second woman in Castleton history to record 100 career goals, is now three behind the all time leader with 103.

With 18:30 remaining in the first half Kaitlyn Kelley scored her 23rd goal of the season to tie the score at 3-3. From that point Castleton went on 17-0 run that spanned the next 31:30 of play and included Bouchard's historic goal.

Nicole Adams tallied five goals as Castleton improved to 8-6 overall and 6-1 in NEWLA play. Freshman, Marie VanDerKar scored five goals and dished out one assist, while Stephanie Pearce also tallied five goals.

Kelley led the 5-9 (3-4 NEWLA) Falcons with four goals, while Victoria D'Amato and Emily Swan each had two assists.

Meredith Pope stopped one shot in the first half to earn the win before giving way to Francesca Mazzola who made one second-half save.

Ashley Davison made 11 saves for Fitchburg State, which wrapped up its inaugural varsity season.

Castleton will play host to St. Joseph's College (Me.) Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
