Box Score Castleton, VT-Michael Martinez scored five goals and handed out two assists as Castleton State College defeated Green Mountain College 23-3 in non-conference men's lacrosse action.
The win, Castleton's 11th of the season, marks the most ever in a season in program history. Castleton has won eight out of its last nine games to improve to 11-5.
Castleton raced out to a 12-1 lead at halftime as the Spartans held a 19-3 advantage in shots, and a 40-19 advantage in ground balls. Phil Barry tallied three goals and one assist in the first five minutes of play to bolster the attack.
Green Mountain's Tom Wheeler scored a pair of goals to lead the 1-10 Eagles.
Castleton placed 10 different players in the scoring column. Jeremy Peyton and Robbie Schroeder each scored three goals, while Daniel Luzzi, Robert Hass, and Korey Counos each had two. Brett Quillia tallied four assist, to raise his league-leading total to 31 on the season.
Castleton will take the number two seed into the North Atlantic Conference tournament which begins Saturday. The Spartans will host #3 Thomas College at 2:00 pm. The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the conference finals, and will face the winner of #1 Mount Ida vs #4 Maine Maritime. The final game is slated for May 3, and will be played at the highest remaining seed.
