Castleton falls 13-8 to Norwich

Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-8 match-up with Norwich University in non-conference action. Norwich improves to 7-4, while Castleton falls to 6-4.

Ally Daniels tallied six goals and two assists to lead the Cadets to the win. Castleton freshman, Marie VanDerKar led the Spartans with four goals and one assist.

Norwich took a 7-5 lead into halftime as the teams traded goals until the Cadets took the lead for good, 5-3 on Ashley Haviland's free position goal with 13:36 remaining in the first half. Stephanie Pearce kept the Spartans alive in the first half, scoring two of her three goals during the opening 30 minutes.

VanDerKar pulled the Spartans to 7-6, 1:44 into the second half, but Daniels answered with two-straight goals to give Norwich a three goal cushion with 24:18 remaining.

VanDerKar once again cut into the lead, scoring just 16 seconds later to make it 9-7, but it was as close as Castleton would come. Daniels sandwiched her final two goals around single tallies from Chelsea Martin and Haviland. Haviland ended the game with four goals and one assist.

Meredith Pope stopped nine shots in the loss for Castleton, while Norwich goalie, Kellie Pickel stopped 10 in the win.

Castleton returns to action on Saturday when the Spartans play host to Southern Maine at 1:00 pm.

Norwich will take on Pine Manor in a GNAC contest, Friday at 4:30 pm in Northfield.
