Castleton downs Becker College 20-5 for record-tying sixth win

Fort Ann , NY-Nicole Bouchard scored six goals and handed out two assist as Castleton defeated Becker College in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance action at Golden Goal Tournament Park in Fort Ann, NY.

Castleton jumped out to an 11-3 lead at halftime as Stephanie Pearce scored all three of her goals over the first 30 minutes of play. Pearce also added three ground balls and four draw controls on the afternoon. Nicole Adams and Marie VanDerKar also played huge roles as Castleton improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference action. Adams scored five goals and had two assists to go along with two ground balls and three draw controls, while VanDerKar added two goals, three assists, four ground balls and seven draw controls.

The first-year Hawks fall to 1-7 (1-4 NEWLA) on the season. Tammy Mullen led Becker with three goals, while Karroll Leon scored two. Ashley Piaseki stopped 10 shots in the loss.

With the win, Castleton equals its largest win total in program history, set last season when the team went 6-7.

Meredith Pope stopped five first-half shots before giving way to Francesca Mazzola for the second half. Mazzola stopped two to help seal the win.

Castleton is back in action on Wednesday at 4:00 pm in a non-conference match-up with Norwich University. Becker will play at NEWLA foe, Fitchburg State on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
