Castleton's win-streak snapped at four with 17-9 loss to Colby-Sawyer

Castleton , VT -The Castleton State College women's lacrosse team saw its program-best win-streak snapped at four games by Colby-Sawyer 17-9 in non-conference action.

Colby-Sawyer held an 8-6 lead at halftime, but back-to-back goals by the Spartans to open the second half tied the score at 8-8. The two teams traded goals to make it 9-9 before the Chargers unleashed an 8-0 run over the final 18:35 to earn the win.

Colby-Sawyer's Tara Stewart led the way with six goals and one assist to go along with six ground balls and five draw controls. Elaine Kennedy added four goals and one assist, while Allicia Murphy chipped in three goals and one assist for the 3-6 Chargers.

Stephanie Pearce led the Spartans with three goals and one assist, while freshman Marie VanDerkar added three goals. Nicole Bouchard chipped in two goals as Castleton falls to 5-3.

Alicia Foss earned the win, stopping seven shots, including five in the second half. Colby-Sawyer returns to The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday when the Chargers travel to Gordon College for a 12:00 pm draw.

Meredith Pope, who earned ECAC New England Goalie of the Week honors this past week, stopped five shots in the loss. The Spartans will play host to Becker College Sunday at 1:00 pm in a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance match-up.
