Castleton falls to Western Connecticut State in season opener

Danbury, CT-The Castleton State College men's lacrosse team opened its 2008 campaing with a 12-3 loss at Western Connecticut State at the WestConn Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon. 

WestConn freshman Tom Begley netted six goals and assisted on another in the win. Begley registered a hat trick 4:38 into the contest and closed out his six-goal tally with 4:16 remaining before intermission.

Sophomores A. J. Barbieri and Adam Lanehart contributed two goals apiece for the Colonials, now 2-0.

Phil Barry led the Castleton offense with one goal and one assist. Daniel Luzzi and Tyson Chouinard each tallied one goal each, while Jake Rick and Devon Wood each had an assist.

Junior Kyle Wood earned the victory in goal for WestConn after making nine saves before yeilding to Chris Frappier for the final 15 minutes. Frappier made five saves.

Michael Mamunes made fives saves during the first period. Christopher Wynne played the final three periods in goal for Castleton, making 17 saves.

Castleton falls to 0-1 on the young season and will travel to Plattsburgh State University on March 13 for a 4:00 pm non-conference match-up.
