Castleton wins at Elms College 13-4

Chicopee, MA -The Castleton State College women's lacrosse team improved to 2-1 in NEWLA play, winning at Elms College 13-4.

The Spartans led 7-3 at halftime, and poured it on in the second half, outscoring their hosts 6-1 over the final 30 minutes.

Freshmen tandem Nicole Adams and Stepahine Pearce led the Castleton attack. Adams tallied 3 goals and 2 assists, while Pearce added 2 goals and 2 assists to go along with 4 ground balls and 3 draw controls. Alex Fleck added a pair of goals off the bench, and the Spartans received single tallies from six other players.

The Blazers, who fall to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play, were led by Caitlin Childs with a pair of goals.

Meredith Pope stopped five first-half shots for 2-2 (2-1 NEWLA) Castleton to earn the win. Francesca Mazzola relieved her in the second half and stopped six shots to preserve the victory.

Castleton is back in action on Tuesday, April 10 when they host Westfield State at 4:00 pm.
