Adams helps secure third seed in NEWLA tournament with overtime goal

Northfield, VT - Nicole Adams scored the game-winning goal with five seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Castleton to a 14-13 win over the Norwich. The win gives the Spartansan overall mark of 6-4 and 5-2 in NEWLA action, while Norwich goes to 6-4 in all games played and 4-3 in league play.

Norwich's Kathleen Hennessy sent the game into an extra session when she scored with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score at 12 apiece. Hennessy then scored nine seconds into overtime to put the Cadets ahead, 13-12. Castleton's Stephanie Pearce knotted the score at 13 with two minutes to play before Adams then won the game.

Adams and Nicole Bouchard led the Spartans with four goals apiece. Allison Daniels topped the Cadets with five goals, while Hennessy finished with four goals.

Castleton led 7-5 at halftime before Norwich outscored the Spartans, 7-5, in the second half. The Cadets outshot Castleton, 33-24 with netminder Katie Fraser collecting 12 saves. Castleton goalies Francesca Mazzola and Meredith Pope split the first and second halves and each made 10 saves.

Both teams will close out the regular season on Thursday. Norwich will play a home game against Westfield State at 3:30 pm, while Castleton State will host Keene State at 4:00 pm.
