Castleton drops Green Mountain 16-2, wrap up NAC season tomorrow at JSC

Poultney, VT-The Castleton State College men's lacrosse team won for the fourth time in their past five contests, defeating Green Mountain College 16-2.

The Spartans jumped out to a 9-1 halftime lead and cruised to victory behind four goals and two assists from Adam Rosati.

Paul Reilly tallied both goals for 1-7 Green Mountain and Steve Braunius stopped 22 shots in the loss.

Matt VanDerKar scored a pair of goals and handed out five assists to go along with 15 ground balls and 18-19 face offs won. As of the last NCAA Division III reporting date (April 22) VanDerKar leads the nation in ground balls per game at 10.78, and face-off percentage at .806.

Freshman, Jake Rick, added three goals and two assists and led the team with 16 ground balls. Al Brown, scooped up 10 ground balls and added an assist. Both Brown and Rick are 60th in the country in ground balls per game with 5 per contest.

James VanDerKar scored a pair of goals from his defensive position and Castleton recievied single tallies from Steve Gerding, Robbie Scanlon, Devon Wood, Michael Martinez and Geoffrey Walker.

Castleton finishes up their NAC schedule tomorrow at 3:30 pm when they travel to Johnson State.
