Box Score Castleton, VT-Matt VanDerkar had three goals, two assists, 19 groundballs and won 23 out of 25 face-offs to help Castleton to a 27-2 victory over conference foe, Thomas College.
The Spartans jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first quarter, and held the Terriers scoreless for the last 49 minutes and 20 seconds of the game.
Thomas falls to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in NAC play. Mike Ross and Chris Vashon scored for the Terriers.
Steve Gerding was the leading point man for the Spartans, tallying 4 goals and handing out three assists. Freshman Michael Martinez added five goals and one assist off the bench, while classmate, Jake Rick had two goals and three assists.
Adam Rosati and Geoffrey Walker each tallied four goals and one assist, while Robbie Scanlon chipped in with two goals and four assists.
David Manghis received his first career start in goal and made two saves for the 6-4 (5-1 NAC) Spartans. MJ Cain stopped six shots for the Terriers.
Castleton returns to the field on Tuesday when they travel to cross-town rival Green Mountain College for a 4:00 pm non-conference affair.
