Box Score MARION, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 9-0 decision to Little East Conference opponent Bridgewater State University on Sunday afternoon at the Marion Indoor Tennis Club.
Bridgewater State opened the match with a sweep in doubles play. Tanner Ciufo and Remy Maynard fought hard at the top spot but ultimately fell 8-4. Miki Almirall and Valero Echegoyen dropped their match 8-2 at the second spot, while Ben Chilkott and Dylan Shiland were defeated 8-0 at the third spot.
In singles action, Almirall pushed his opponent at No.1 but fell 7-5, 6-0. Maynard battled through three sets at No. 3, taking the second set 6-4 before dropping the decider 6-2. The Bears proved too strong across the lineup, with Ciufo, Chilkott, Echegoyen, and Shiland all falling in straight sets.
With the loss, the Spartans dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Castleton returns home to face Salem State for another LEC match up on Saturday, April 12, at 12 p.m.
