GORHAM, Maine – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team battled with Southern Maine during Monday's rescheduled Little East Conference match. The Spartans fell 4-3 as the Huskies swept the doubles matches.
Castleton grabbed three of the six singles matches, as
Remy Maynard took No. 2 6-3, 6-3, and
Trevor Castino took No. 3 6-1, 6-0.
Tyler Burke won his third singles match in a row, this time at No. 4 6-3, 0-6, 6-4, taking the decisive third set to claim the Spartans' third team point.
Tanner Ciufo fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, at No. 5
Jackson Paquin dropped his match 6-1, 6-0, and
Addy Boynton fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
In doubles action, Ciufo and Maynard dropped at No. 1, 6-1, while No. 2 and No. 3 went in favor of the Huskies, 6-2 in both matches.
The Spartans return to the Castleton Tennis Courts tomorrow (April 21) for another LEC match with the Beacons of UMass Boston set for 1 p.m.
