TROY, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's track and field team competed at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational on Thursday and Friday, where they placed fifth overall with a score of 49 points.
How it Happened
- On Thursday, Kalynn Stevenson highlighted the night with a massive personal record in the discus throw. She improved her school record with a 42.98m toss on her second attempt in the event, where she went on to place second overall and score eight points for the Spartans.
- Katelyn Yerdon and Sienna Newth also took part in the discus throw on Thursday. Yerdon scored a point after tossing a new personal best of 33.18m which placed her eighth in the event. Newth followed up behind Yerdon in ninth place with a mark of 31.97m.
- On Friday, Isabell Lanfear claimed victory and 10 points for Castleton in the javelin after launching a new personal best of 35.90m on her second attempt. Luna Perry-St. Peter took a podium spot with a third-place finish for six points with her mark of 31.10m.
- Abigail Seaman competed in the triple jump, where she leaped 10.36m to take second in the event and grab eight points for the Spartans' team total.
- Bethany Davis took on the 1500m where she clocked in a new personal best of 5:13.94, securing three points with her sixth-place finish.
- Rachel Doty-Snay finished eighth and tallied a point for Castleton in the 100m dash in a new personal record of 13.72m. She also competed in the 200m dash, where she also clocked in a personal best of 29.41m to place 21st overall.
- Castleton saw four athletes reach the finals in the shot, where they combined for 12 points in the event. Stevenson led the way with a fourth-place finish and a toss of 12.09m. Lanfear and Karli Martin placed fifth and sixth with new personal bests of 11.36m and 10.82m, and Sienna Newth took ninth with a toss of 10.27m.
- Martin also competed in the hammer throw, where she launched a 36.72m toss for ninth place.
What's Next
VTSU Castleton will travel to Cambridge, Mass for a two-day outing at the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT. Day one begins on Friday, April 18.
