TROY, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's track and field team competed at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational on Thursday and Friday, where they placed eighth overall with a score of 19 points.
How it Happened
- On Thursday, first-year Eddie Sayers tallied five points for the Spartans with his fourth-place finish in the discus throw. Sayers tossed 38.07m on his fifth attempt in the event.
- On Friday, Carter Mackey leaped a new season-best of 1.90m in the high jump on his third attempt at the height. His mark secured him a third-place finish and six points for the Spartans' team total.
- On his first attempt, Sidiki Sylla launched a 13.51m toss in the shot put, which set a new personal record for the sophomore and placed him third overall with six points in the event. Sayers secured two points with a seventh-place finish after tossing 12.09m.
- Jon Hendley took third place in the Unseeded 1500m run on Friday, clocking in a new personal best of 4:15.49.
- Connor Fournier took 10th in the shot put with a toss of 11.53m and 20th in the discus throw with a mark of 29.63m.
- Deacon Watson placed 15th in the discus throw with a personal best of 31.43m. He also placed 15th in the shot put with a mark of 11.03m.
- Zack Durr and Brody Hopkins took on the 100 and 200m double. Durr placed 23rd in the 100m dash with a time of 11.91. He then followed up with a personal best in the 200m with a time of 24.46 which placed him 30th. Hopkins took 26th in the 100m with a time of 12.08 and 33rd in the 200m with a time of 24.59.
What's Next
VTSU Castleton will travel to Cambridge, Mass for a two-day outing at the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT. Day one begins on Friday, April 18.
