HOOKSETT, N.H.- The Vermont State University Castleton men's track and field team debuted their outdoor season at the SNHU Spring Invitational on Friday.
First-year Jacques Alfani opened his outdoor season in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 52.49 to place 16th. He also competed in the 100m dash, finishing 29th overall with a time of 11.73. Senior Jon Hendley posted a ninth finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:49.42.Â
In the field events, senior Carter Mackey cleared 1.85m in the high jump to claim fifth place. First-year Eddie Sayers delivered strong performances in the throws, earning ninth place in the discus with a toss of 36.87m and fifth place in the shot put with a mark of 12.25m. Sidki Sylla tossed 12.56m to place sixth in the shot put, while Deacon Watson rounded out the Spartans with an 11th-place finish with a toss of 11.86m.
Multiple Spartans doubled down in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. Zack Durr led the way finishing 42nd in the 100 with a time of 11.98m and 33rd in the 200 with a time of 24.49. Brody Hopkins ran 11.85 and 24.66 to finish 38th in both events. Sean Roth took 43rd in the 100m with a time of 11.98 and placed 39th in the 200m with a time of 24.72m to round out Castleton's top finishers in the event.
VTSU Castleton returns to action next Saturday, April 5 at the Springfield College Classic. Â
