MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's track and field team competed at the Middlebury Track & Field Meet on Saturday.
The Spartans came away with three winners on Saturday, starting with
Jon Hendley who captured first place in the 5000m run with a time of 17:12.
Jason Guerino took second place in the event, crossing the line in 17:35.
Carter Mackey cleared his personal best of 1.95m on his first attempt to take first place in the high jump.
The 4x200m relay of
Zack Durr,
Brody Hopkins,
Jonathan Tshamala, and
Jacques Alfani took first place in the event, running a season-best 1:37.
Castleton was strong in the throws with sophomore
Sidiki Sylla leading the way. Starting in the weight throw, Sylla placed fifth in the event after launching the ball 11.54m. Senior
Deacon Watson placed behind Sylla in sixth with a toss of 8.37m.
Sylla and Watson took to the shot put next, where they were joined by
Eddie Sayers and
Connor Fournier. Sylla placed fourth in the event tossing 13.12m, just shy of his record. Sayers tossed a new personal record of 12.80m to crack the top-5 with a fifth-place finish. Fournier threw 11.49m for seventh and Watson tossed 11.42m for eighth.
Wayne Alexander finished ninth overall in the 600m with a time of 1:27. Alfani and Tshamala each ran personal records in the 400m run. Alfani clocked in 53.97 for sixth place and Tshamala crossed the line in 54.32 for seventh place.
VTSU Castleton returns to action on Saturday, February 15 at the Gordan Kelly Invitational.
