PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's track and field team competed at the Little East Conference Championship on Saturday. The team placed eighth overall, scoring a total of 16 points.
Highlighting the day was sophomore
Kalynn Stevenson who took a podium finish in the shot put. On her first attempt she launched 12.28m that saw her take third place, set a new program record and secure six points for the team. She also competed in the weigh throw where she tossed 13.34m for fifth place, grabbing two points for the team.
McKenna Castor lowered her school record in the 60mh with a time of 9.47 in the preliminary round which qualified her for the finals, where she ran 9.67 to grab two points for Castleton with her fifth overall placement in the event.
Karli Martin tossed a huge personal record in the weight throw. She launched a 13.98m which saw her take fourth place and four points for the team. Her new mark was also good enough to qualify her for regionals next week.
Megan Carson competed in the 60m dash where she clocked in a time of 8.26, which was good enough to qualify her to the finals where she improved her time to 8.20 for a new personal best that saw her take seventh overall. She also competed in the triple jump, where she leaped 9.30m for 13th.

Ellen Wambui, Carson and Castor competed in the 4x200m relay, where they placed sixth with a time of 1:58.55 to secure a point for the Spartans.
Bethany Davis clocked in a new personal best in the 5000m run with a time of 19:45 to finish seventh.
Rosie Phelan ran 3:20 in the 1000m to take seventh in the event and new personal best.
Abigail Seaman placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.86m and
Adrian Clement took 12th with a mark of 9.37m.
VTSU Castleton returns to action for the New England DIII Track & Field Championships starting Friday, February 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Mass.
