Men's Track and Field Tunes Up at Gordon Kelly Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's track and field team competed at the Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday.

Highlighting the day was senior Wayne Alexander, who took first place in the 800m. Alexander clocked in a season-best 2:01 and beat his opponents by more than six seconds. 

Six Spartans competed in the 60m dash, with Jacques Alfani leading the way with a 7.54 to place 30th. Aerion Joseph clocked in 7.65 for a new personal best to finish 34th. Jonathan Tshamala ran 7.66 for 35th, Brody Hopkins ran 7.68 for 36th, Sean Roth took 37th in 7.69 and Nykeil Samir Boone-Givens placed 45th in 8.22.

Sidiki Sylla tossed 12.84m for a 10th-place finish in the shot put. Eddie Sayers launched his attempt for 12.25m for 16th and Connor Fournier rounded out the Spartans with a mark of 11.83m for 20th.

Jon Hendley ran the 3000m in 9:30 to finish 10th. Jason Guerino clocked in a new personal best in the event, running 10:10 to place 16th overall. 

Carter Mackey cleared 1.85m in the high jump to take sixth in the event. 

VTSU Castleton will travel to Providence R.I. for the Little East Conference Championship on Saturday, February 22 at 11 a.m.
