ITHACA, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team notched second-place at the Ithaca Invitational following another impressive outing as a team, with two wrestlers finishing first in their respective weight classes.
The Spartans finished second out of nine teams, with 161 team points, only behind the host squad, Ithaca, with 200.5 team points. Pennsylvania College of Technology finished third with 103 points, while Springfield notched fourth with 98 points, and Norwich rounded out the top five with 87 points.
Nathaniel Camiscioli secured a first-place finish at 157 pounds, after going 2-0 on day two, pinning teammate
Justyce Mercado in 1:35 and taking down Akio Sanders of the host team Ithaca via decision in the first-place match. He finished the weekend with four pins, the most out of any wrestler at the invitational, and posted his fastest pin time at 28 seconds.
Desmond McLaughlin was Castleton's second first-place finisher, going 2-0 on the day, with two wins via decision, the first over teammate
Jake Long, and the second over Avery Canzano of Oswego for first place.
Drew Marchese earned a second-place finish at 125 pounds. He scored a big 19-1 win by technical fall but lost a close 8-6 decision in the first-place match.
Nicolas Balella also took home second at 149 pounds, after a narrow 7-6 win to open day two, and a loss via decision in the first-place match.
Colby Celuck and
Evan Day each finished third at 174 and 285 pounds, respectively, going 2-1 on day two of the invitational. Celuck pinned his opponent in 1:49 to take home third, while Day earned the win in the third-place match via medical forfeit.

Josh Negron (197) all finished fourth in their respective weight classes.
Stone Farnsworth (141) went 3-1 on day two to secure a fifth-place finish, while Mercado went 1-2 at 157 pounds, good enough for fifth.
Avi Berg (125),
Aidan Shufelt (133), and
Colton Perkins (285) rounded out the Spartans' place-winners at sixth-place in their respective brackets.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday, November 13, for the ninth meeting against Norwich in the annual Battle for the Green Mountain Championship at Glenbrook Gym. Exhibitions are set for 6 p.m., while the varsity dual will begin at 7 p.m.
