Wrestling Pulls in Numerous All-NEWA Honors

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team pulled in numerous post-season honors on Wednesday, earning nine spots across two All-NEWA teams, while landing 23 individuals on the NEWA All-Academic Team.

The Spartans had a representative in all but one weight class across the All-NEWA Second Team and Honorable Mention list, while two first-year wrestlers found themselves on the NEWA All-Rookie Team.

The three wrestlers who made NCAA National Championship appearances this season earned a spot on the All-NEWA Second Team. Drew Marchese, Jashon Holmes, and Desmond McLaughlin landed Second-Team honors, while Stone Farnsworth, Nicolas Balella, Nathaniel Camiscioli, Joseph Baker, Josh Negron, and Logan Frank were tabbed to the honorable mention list.

At 125 pounds, Marchese finished the season 34-8 overall and 16-2 in dual meet action. Holmes finished his senior campaign at 29-9 overall and 16-3 in dual action at 165 pounds. McLaughlin rounded out the National qualifiers for Castleton with a 32-11 overall record, going 13-4 in duals at 184 pounds.

On the Honorable Mention list, Farnsworth finished 32-17 and 8-10 at 133 pounds, while Balella went 30-15 overall and 6-8 at 141 in dual action. At 157 pounds, Camiscioli went 29-13 overall and 10-8 in duals, and Baker finished 21-13 and 6-5 at 174 pounds. Negron finished his Spartan career with a 37-8 overall record and went 16-3 in dual action at 197 pounds, as Frank finished with a 26-14 and 4-3 at 285 pounds.

First-years Baker (174) and Aidan Shufelt (133) were named to the All-NEWA Rookie Team after noteworthy showings in their first season as a Spartan.

Rounding out the awards on the NEWA All-Academic Team were Baker, Farnsworth, Holmes, Marchese, Negron, Robert Allcroft, Viktor Banda, Avi Berg, Logan Bruce, Colby Celuck, Keonta Crawford, Giovanni Gioio, Isaiah Grant, Braeden Gray, Reese Greathouse, Caleb Ives, Joseph Kennedy, Dom Lapier, Hunter Lines, Jake Long, John Marcellus, Griffin Norwalt, and Zach Olden.
