Men's Track and Field Place Fourth at Massasoit Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's track and field team took fourth at the Springfield College Massasoit Classic on Saturday. The team scored 36 points.
 
Securing 10 points with his first place finish in the high jump was junior Carter Mackey. Mackey jumped 1.90m on his first attempt to secure the victory. This is the second time this season Mackey has leaped 1.90m+
 
Wayne Alexander also secured 10 points for the Spartans with a time of 2:02 in the 800m to take first place. Alexander has now finished first in back-to-back weeks after a first place finish in the 600m a week ago.
 
Sophomore Sidiki Sylla exploded with two new personal records in the field. He started in the shot put where he tossed 13.30m to place third and secure six points. Sylla followed up with a seventh place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 12.16m.
 
Jon Hendley placed fourth in the 3000m run with a time of 9:40 to claim five points in the event. Connor Fournier took seventh in the shot put with a toss of 11.99m to snag two points in the event. Jason Guerino crossed the line in 17:51 to take eighth and secure a point.
 
VTSU Castleton returns to action Saturday, February 1 at 10 a.m. at the Panther Invitational II.
