PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's track and field team took fifth at the Panther Invitational I on Saturday, scoring 54 points.
Leading the way was sophomore
Kalynn Stevenson, who took first place in the shot put with a toss of 11.84m. She followed up in the weight throw with a mark of 13.38m to place fifth to add another four points to the team and capped off a 14-point day.
McKenna Castor bested her school record in the preliminary round of the 60mh with a time of 9.82 to move on to the events finals. She beat her time once more, clocking in 9.78 to take third in the event for six points.
Abigail Seaman and
Adrian Clement took second and third in the triple jump to combine for 14 points. Seaman leaped 10.10m while Clement soared 9.52m down the runway.
Karli Martin and
Isabell Lanfear provided strong days in the throwing events. Martin took fifth in the shot put with a season-best 10.40m and sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.14m for a combined seven points between the two events. Lanfear took eighth in each event with a personal record of 12.00m in the weight throw and a season-best 10.20m in the shot put.
Rosie Phelan and
Olivia Howard placed fourth and seventh in the 1000m run, with Phelan crossing the line in 3:38 and Howard finishing in 4:01 to combine for seven points in the event.
Bethany Davis took action in the 5000m run with a time of 20:52 to finish in sixth place and secure four points for the Spartans.
VTSU Castleton returns to action on Saturday, January 25 at 10:30 a.m. for the Massasoit Classic at Springfield College.
