Men's Track and Field Finish Fourth at Panther Invitational I

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's track and field team took fourth at the Panther Invitational I on Saturday, scoring 35 points. 

Wayne Alexander highlighted the day with a first-place finish in the 600m. The senior crossed the line in 1:26 to secure 10 points for the Spartans.

Sophomore Sidiki Sylla provided a big day in the throws. He placed third in the shot put with a mark of 12.42m and then followed up with a personal best of 11.28m in the weight throw to take fifth in the event. He secured 10 points for the team.

Deacon Watson threw a personal record in the weight throw, tossing 10.99m for seventh place to add two points for the team. Connor Fournier and Miles Mitchell finished fifth and eighth in the shot put, tossing 11.82m and 11.00m to add 5 points to the team total.

Jon Hendley ran a new season best in the 5000m run with a time of 15:53m which placed him sixth in the event and brought in four points for Castleton. 

Carter Mackey brought in three points for the Spartans in the high jump with a sixth-place finish and a leap of 1.85m. Zabrien McGee secured a point in the long jump with a mark of 5.37m to place eighth in the event. 

VTSU Castleton returns to action Saturday, January 25 at 10:30 a.m. for the Massasoit Classic at Springfield College.
