Women's Track and Field Takes Fifth at Middlebury Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's track and field team took 5th place at the Middlebury Snowflake Invitational on Saturday. The team scored a total of 58 points.

Sophomore Kalynn Stevenson took first place in the weight throw with a toss of 13.65m to secure 10 points for the Spartans. She followed up with a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 11.55m to grab eight points to cap off an 18-point day for the Coram, N.Y. native.

Sienna Newth, Karli Martin, and Isabell Lanfear finished in scoring positions in the shot put with their performances. Newth took fourth in the event with a toss of 10.12m. Martin took sixth with a toss of 9.96m and Lanfear rounded out the squad in seventh with a mark of 9.92m. Martin and Lanfear also found themselves in scoring position in the weight throw, with Martin placing fifth with her throw of 12.38m and Lanfear took seventh with a launch of 11.62m. Between the two events, the Spartans scored 34 points in the throwing events.

First-year Adrian Clement took second place in the triple jump with a leap of 9.72m to secure eight points for the team. McKenna Castor placed third in the 60m hurdles in 9.96 to grab six points for VTSU Castleton.

Bethany Davis finished eighth in the mile with a time of 5:55 to secure a point. Davis doubled back and took on the 800m run, where she took sixth in the event with a time of 2:45 to earn three points for the Spartans. Rosie Phelan scored six points in the 1000m run after taking third place in 3:32.

VTSU Castleton returns to action on Saturday, January 18 at 10 a.m. for the Panther Invitational I.
