DANBURY, Conn. — The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis team extended a trio of singles matches to super tiebreakers, but ultimately dropped its final regular-season matchup against WestConn, 9-0, Saturday afternoon.

Stanley Andersen and Christian Giannone fell at the third tandem spot in an 8-3 set as the team of Miki Almirall/Connor Davis narrowly lost in top-flight action, 8-4. The Spartans' (6-6, 1-5 LEC) No. 2 duo of Khiem Nguyen/Jason Lipscomb performed well against Sebastian Frisch/Nicholas Peschier of WestConn (7-9, 3-1 LEC) but fell by an 8-5 margin.

The Wolves notched points in straight sets at the second, third, and fifth singles slots to clinch the dual. Lipscomb was the lone Spartan with a first-set win over Caleb Harris in 6-4 fashion, but dropped the second and a 10-8 super tiebreaker. Andersen pulled off a 6-4 second set to take Jason Lee to another stanza as the Wolves came away victorious. At the No. 1 flight, Nguyen narrowly lost his initial set, 7-5, before logging a 6-3 set-two triumph. Again the hosts prevailed, finalizing the Little East Conference meeting at 9-0.

The Spartans return to the LEC Championship tournament next week as the sixth seed. They travel back to No. 3 seed WestConn on Tuesday, April 30 for a 3 p.m. matchup in the opening round.
