Box Score RUTLAND, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's tennis program got its season off to an impressive start Saturday, holding Norwich scoreless with a 9-0 blanking at Vermont Sport and Fitness Club.
The Spartans (1-0) outscored their in-state opponent 24-5 in tandem play with the largest triumph coming from soccer duo Stanley Andersen and Liam Cramer who took an 8-0 third-flight win. Miki Almirall/Connor Davis cruised in the top slot, scoring an 8-2 triumph, as Jason Lipscomb/Khiem Nguyen completed the doubles sweep by taking down Ethan Teluk/Noah Sham, 8-0.
Lipscomb continued to roll in singles, delivering a double bagel against Sophia Sevi at the fourth spot. Cramer and Andersen went a combined 16-1 in the bottom two flights as Miki Almirall downed Matthias Tchantouridze, 6-1, 6-0 at the second slot. Davis topped Assumpta Nandawula in 6-2, 6-4 fashion as Nguyen finalized the 9-0 result, defeating Terrance Bayly-Henshaw with a narrow 7-5, 6-4 triumph.
VTSU Castleton is back in action tomorrow (Sunday, March 17) when they host VTSU Lyndon at 1 p.m.
