Men's Track and Field Open Season at Utica Holiday Classic

UTICA, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's track and field team opened their 2024-25 season at the Utica Holiday Classic on Saturday.
 
VTSU Castleton saw two program records fall by first year Jacques Alfani and junior JaQuincy Bostick. Alfani made his collegiate debut and ran a blistering 37.60 in the 300m to take 8th overall and set a new program record. On his fifth attempt, Bostick leaped 6.66m to place fifth in the long jump. His mark breaks the previous school record of 6.63m that was set back in 2020.
 
Carter Mackey took first place in the high jump with a new personal best of 1.95m. His mark currently sits him atop of the Little East Conference and is tied for the 11th best jump in Division III.
 
Jon Hendley placed 10th in the 5000m run with a time of 16:48. Wayne Alexander clocked in a 4:46 mile for 13th. First-years Jonathan Tshamala and Eddie Sayers made impressive debuts with Tshamala taking 16th in the 300m dash with a time of 39.05. While Sayers placed 19th in the shot put with a mark of 12.15m.
 
VTSU Castleton returns to action Saturday, December 14 at 12 p.m. for the USM Alumni Open at Southern Maine.
