Women's Track and Field Take Action at USM Alumni Open

GORHAM, Maine – The Vermont State University Castleton women's track and field team competed at the USM Alumni Open Saturday afternoon.

Highlighting the day was Kalynn Stevenson who dropped two new personal bests in the shot put and weight throw. She started in the shot put, where she improved her school record with a toss of 12.10m which took second in the field and became the first Spartan to toss over 12.00m in program history. The sophomore currently ranks second in the Little East Conference, third in the Mideast Region and 43rd in Division III,  Stevenson followed up with a third-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 13.80m to establish a new personal best.

First-year Abigail Seaman, who took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.31m. She also competed in the high jump, where she took fifth reaching 1.52m. 

On the track, Rosie Phelan took second place in the 1000m run with a time of 3:33. Bethany Davis placed third with a time of 5:56 in the mile. Karla Sherman took fourth in the 500m dash crossing the line in 1:47. Rachel Doty-Snay took action in the 55m and 200m dash, placing 12th and 13th with times of 8.30 and 31.91. 

In the field, Karli Martin finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.45m. She also threw 9.72m in the shot put to finish in ninth between teammates Sienna Newth and Isabell Lanfear. Newth took eighth place with a toss of 9.85m while Lanfear threw 9.56m for 10th place.

VTSU Castleton returns to action Saturday, January 11th for the Middlebury Snowflake Invitational.
