BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Castleton men's track and field team took a short trip to Burlington to take part in the Vermont Quad Meet Saturday afternoon, claiming a pair of first-place finishes against Division I competition.
Ben Reid won the first event of the day for the Spartans, finishing in first in the shot put with a throw of 12.89 meters, while
Harrison Leombruno-Nicholson took the top spot in the javelin clearing 53.64 meters.
Also finding success in Saturday's throwing events was
Miles Mitchell, who finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 37.79 meters, as well as seventh in the shot put, launching the weight 10.54 meters.
In the pit,
David Harvey was the highest-placing Spartan in the long jump, clearing 6.28 meters.
Zack Durr and
Charles Govan also finished in the top-10, with Durr claiming sixth with a jump of 5.93 meters while Govan's 5.58-meter leap was good enough for ninth.
Britain Goodemote continued his recent success in the triple jump, finishing second with a distance of 12.53 meters, while
Taylor Bourn and Durr finished third and fourth respectively.
Castleton claimed yet another top-three finish in the high jump, with
Carter Mackey finishing with the bronze by clearing a height of 1.75 meters.
Kaleb Swett finished sixth in the event, also claiming fourth in the pole vault.
The Spartans got things started on the track, with
Brandon Ryan, Bourn, Govan, and Durr combining for the third-place finish in the 4x100, crossing the line in 45.76. In the 100-meter sprint it was Harvey claiming another top-10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 11.72. Finishing closely behind were Govan, Bourn, and Durr, who came in 11
th, 12
th, and 13
th respectively.
Wayne Alexander joined the list of podium finishers in the 400, finishing in second with a time of 53.52, followed by
Jack Wanders and
Drew Barring in fourth and fifth. The Spartans concluded their successful day with the 200, in which Govan, Ryan, and
Joe LaFarge came in fifth, sixth, and seventh, with Govan's 24.45 leading the way.
Castleton finished fourth in the meet with 100 points. Saint Lawrence took first at 185 points, with Vermont (163) and New Hampshire (148) rounding out the top three.
The Spartans return to action Friday, April 14 to compete in the RPI – Under The Lights meet, with events set to begin at 4 p.m.
