DARTMOUTH, Mass.  – After finishing in second a season ago, Harrison Leombruno-Nicholson claimed his first ever LEC title at Saturday's Little East Conference Outdoor Championships, winning the javelin throw by nearly two meters to claim the crown. In an overall strong day, several other Spartans earned top-five finishes as Castleton men's track and field placed sixth as a team.

Saturday's meet began with the field events in which a number of Spartans earned points. Cody York opened the day just missing out on a top-six finish, placing seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.81 meters. Shortly after, Castleton secured their first points of the day in the long jump from David Harvey and Taylor Bourn, who finished in fourth and sixth in the event clearing 6.56 and 6.48 meters respectively.

Also finding success in the pits was freshman Britain Goodemote, who finished in fourth with a leap of 13.09 meters. Goodemote was the highest ranking freshman in the event, meaning he earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.

After the jumps, it was Leombruno-Nicholson becoming just the second Spartan to be named an LEC Champion with his win in the javelin, clearing 60.42 meters. The victory continues a dominant stretch by the junior in the event, with the new mark ranking 13th nationally.

Miles Mitchell also secured points in the javelin, finishing fifth with a throw of 44.48 meters, and was also the highest placing freshmen in the event. Castleton's points in the field events wrapped up with the shot put, in which Ben Reid claimed third with a throw of 13.20 meters, followed closely by York who finished in fourth, clearing 12.03 meters on his fifth attempt.

On the track, a team of Macalyster Perry, Bourn, Charles Govan, and Zack Durr kicked things off with a sixth-place finish in the 4x100 relay, crossing the line in 46.14. Perry was also the highest-placing Spartan in the 110-meter hurdles, coming in the third with a time of 16.05. David Harvey finished close behind to earn points for the Spartans as well, claiming fourth and crossing the line in 16.52.

Just missing out on points in the 5K was Jon Hendley, who finished in seventh with a time of 15:57.89, before a team of Perry, Govan, Wayne Alexander, and Harvey concluded the Spartans' day with a sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.

UMass Dartmouth won the Championship with a score of 179, with Eastern Connecticut (158) and Southern Maine (93) rounding out the top three.

Next up for Castleton is the New England Outdoor Championship, where Spartans who qualified during the regular season will compete beginning Friday, May 5.
