Women's Track and Field Debut at Springfield College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Vermont State University Castleton women's track and field placed 5th at the Springfield College Season Opener on Saturday.
 
The Spartans opened their season at Springfield College, where they scored 35 points and placed 5th overall. First year Kaylnn Stevenson made her collegiate debut with a third place finish in the shot put. Her throw of 11.04m secured six points for the team. Stevenson also grabbed points in the weight throw with her sixth place finish with a toss of 12.58m. Fellow throws teammate Karli Martin also doubled in the throws to score points for the Spartans. Martin tossed a 10.13m in the shot put and a 12.68m in the weight throw to secure fifth in both events.
 
Taylor Ross placed third in the triple jump to secure six points for the Spartans. Ross' jump of 10.24m is a new personal best indoors and only .05m off her personal record. Amber Cuthbert placed sixth in the mile with a time of 5:40.48 and Mckenna Castor placed fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.39.
 
The Spartans travel to Utica, N.Y.  to compete at the Utica Holiday Classic Saturday, December 9 at 11 a.m.
