Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team traveled in-state to take on Norwich University Wednesday afternoon, winning a doubles match and singles match before ultimately falling 7-2 to the Cadets.
The Spartans (0-2) dropped the afternoon's first two doubles matches 8-6 and 8-3 before
Miguel Almirall Perez and
Jahwara Rennalls earned Castleton their first win of the day, besting Norwich's Patrick O'Neal and Isaac Chapman 8-6 in No. 3 doubles.
On the singles side,
Jason Lipscomb and
Rowan Kidder fell in straight sets at No.1 and No. 3 singles before Rennalls earned the first singles win of his career, topping the Cadets' Molly Twombly 6-3, 6-2. Norwich (1-0) sealed the team victory, however, with wins over the Spartans'
Phil Kluge and Almirall Perez at No. 2 and No. 5 singles to go up 6-2.
The day concluded with freshman
Dante Buttino falling in straight sets to Norwich's Dimitry Mucha at No. 4 singles, handing Castleton the 7-2 loss.
The Spartans are back in action Saturday, March 19 to take on NVU-Lyndon, with the opening match set for 1 p.m.
