CASTLETON, Vt. – The 24th-ranked Castleton University wrestling team trounced Trinity College on Sunday afternoon, earning the fourth shutout in program history in a 55-0 victory on Senior Day in Glenbrook Gym.

The shutout was Castleton's first since November 2019, when it bested Alfred State by a score of 49-0. Castleton improves to 14-2 in dual competitions this season, while Trinity drops to 8-8 on the year. The meeting was the first ever dual match between the two teams.

The Spartans honored six seniors prior to the match, recognizing Halim Bourjeili, Frank Darwak, Cooper Fleming, Owen Kretschmer, Chance LaPier and manager Greta Hoehn prior to the day's bouts.

The match began at 157 pounds, with Castleton picking up a win via forfeit. The Spartans also won the 165-pound weight class via forfeit, taking a 12-0 lead out of the gates. Fleming stepped on the mat and wasted little time getting a win of his own, pinning Dylan Reynolds in 3:43 to make it 18-0 Spartans. Sampson Wilkins followed with a pin of his own in 2:50 against Dylan Sofield before LaPier was victorious via technical fall, 22-7, against Tim Glynn. The Spartans led 29-0 at the midway point following LaPier's victory.

Kretschmer followed with the Spartans' second technical fall of the evening, winning 16-1 over Christian Dwirantwi at 125 pounds. Michael Gonyea added to his NCAA-leading pin total with a pin in just 17 seconds, besting Mo Zaidi nearly immediately. Perry entered the day ranked fifth in the NEWA, while Rodriguez came into the match ranked fourth.
