GORHAM, Maine – The Castleton University wrestling team picked up a second-place finish as a team at the Ted Reese Invitational on Saturday at the University of Southern Maine.
The Spartans totaled 168 points as a team, second only to United States Coast Guard Academy's 187.5. Host Southern Maine finished third at 119.5. Castleton racked up 17 place winners with
James Rodriguez and
Cooper Fleming leading the way with first-place finishes at 141 and 174 pounds. The Spartans wrapped the day with multiple place-winners in seven of the 10 weight classes.
At 125 pounds, Castleton's
Kaya Bogle finished second while
Gavin Bradley earned a third-place finish at the same class.
Michael Gonyea was second with
Drew Marchese third at 133, followed by Rodriguez's top spot at 141 pounds.
At 149,
Elijah Cyr topped teammate
Nicholas Roeger for fourth place, giving Roeger a fifth-place result.
Jashon Holmes finished second at 157 while
Darius Mangiafico posted a fourth-place result.
Michael Angers placed second at 165 pounds with
Izaiah Otero joining him as a place winner with a fourth-place mark in the same class.
Fleming's win in the 174-pound bracket also featured teammate
Desmond McLaughlin placing fourth.
Sampson Wilkins earned second place at 184 pounds while
Josh Negron placed sixth at 184.
Haven Tatarek was the No. 2 finisher at 197 while
Abbas Abdulrahman was second at 285.
Castleton is back in action Friday night at home when it hosts New England College at 7 p.m. in a dual match.
