Wrestling Competes at Journeymen Northeast Duals, Gettysburg Invitational

TROY, N.Y./GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Castleton University wrestling program saw action at two events Saturday, competing at the Journeymen Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y., and at the Gettysburg Invitational in Gettysburg, Pa.

Castleton posted a 1-2 record against stiff competition at the Journeymen Duals, and a fourth-place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational. The Spartans fell to No. 14 Ithaca 35-6 and No. 12 TCNJ 30-12 before defeating Alfred State 49-0 in Troy. At Gettysburg, Castleton had eight top-four finishers en route to the fourth-place team mark.

Castleton managed just two victories over Ithaca, with Michael Angers and Mitchell LaFlam earning wins via decision against the Bombers at 165 and 197. Against TCNJ, Castleton received a win via pin from Travis Brown at 141 and wins via decision by Max Tempel and Jason Hoffman at 149 and 184, respectively.

In the day's finale, Castleton crusied to victory with five wins via pin, one major decision victory and three wins via decision. Valentino was credited with a win via forfeit at 125, before Owen Kretschmer won 13-2 at 133. Brown picked up a 7-2 win at 141, followed by a pin by Tempel at 149. Back-to-back decision wins by Cooper Fleming and Angers at 157 and 165 gave Castleton a 25-0 lead, before Chance LaPier, Hoffman, LaFlam and Joe Galusha each pinned their opponents for the 49-0 win.

At Gettysburg, Nicholas Roeger placed third at 125, winning twice via pin and twice via decision. Macon Edwards was the 133-pound champion, going 3-0 with three wins via decision. Cqari Bacote went 4-2 with four decision victories to place fourth at 149, while Ryan Butcavage placed fourth at 157. Alexander Green finished second at 184 with a 3-1 record, winning twice by decision, while Cody York was 2-0 at 197 to claim first place. De'Shon Alexander finished third at 285, topping teammate Shea Garand, who finished fourth.

Castleton returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational.
