PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Callie Miltenberger scored the game-tying goal in the 78th minute and Tatum Shappy delivered the game-winner in the 86th minute to lead the Castleton University women's soccer team to a comeback victory over Rhode Island College on the road on Saturday, 3-2.

Following a scrum in the box, Miltenberger came away with the ball and ripped it into the back of an undefended net to knot the score at two with 12:57 remaining in regulation. 

Shappy collected a Spartan throw-in along the right sideline before turning and firing a shot past the host goalkeeper to put the Spartans up with just 4:27 left on the clock. The tally, her fifth goal of the season, shortly served as the game-winning goal after Castleton shut down RIC over the ensuing four-plus minutes of play.

Taylor Mann got her second goal of the campaign at the 26:15 mark to get the scoring started. She got open for Julia Carone and delivered the strike for the score.

Following a quiet end to the opening half, Rylee Nichols nearly doubled the lead for Castleton in the 55th minute, but Erica Edwards came up with a big save on the breakaway.

Soleil Galagarza scored the equalizer at 59:40 on a penalty kick. Then, the hosts snagged the lead in the 66th minute when Alyson Morris took advantage of a Spartan turnover deep in CU territory.

Loren Henderson made five saves to earn the win for Castleton (6-5-0, 3-1-0 LEC). Edwards turned aside seven saves in the effort for Rhode Island College (2-9-0, 0-3-0 LEC). The Spartans out-shot RIC 19-13 and also held the edge in corner kicks, 4-3. 

Next up for Castleton is unbeaten and nationally second-ranked Middlebury College at home on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
