Spartans Bounce Sage, 9-0

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team extended its home-court winning streak to five matches on Thursday evening, picking up an emphatic victory over The Sage Colleges, 9-0, at the Grand Slam Tennis Center.

The Spartans improve to 5-1 overall on the season and get back in the win column after to falling to Norwich a week ago. Sage falls to 0-3 on the season, being swept for the third straight match to open 2017.

The Spartans opened the day with a sweep of doubles action, winning each of the three matches to scores of 8-0. Seth Marcil and Quentin Barthe continued their stellar play at the top flight, picking up their sixth straight win to open the season at No. 1 doubles. Ryan Mulder and Trevor Hanna cruised to victory in the second flight, while Brody Wagner and Tyler Wilcox teamed up for an 8-0 win of their own at No. 3 doubles.

Marcil completed his sweep on the day with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Barthe was victorious, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 2 position.

Mulder, Wagner and Jared Wheeler each cruised to perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles play, as none of the three dropped a single point on the day. Mulder was victorious at No. 3 singles, while Wagner did it in the No. 6 spot and Wheeler the No. 5. Hanna rounded out the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win of his own at No. 4 singles.

Castleton begins conference play with its next match, as it travels to Johnson St. on April 8 for the first North Atlantic Conference contest of the season.
