Wrestling Loses Close Match to Williams College, 23-19

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Castleton University split the 10 matches with Williams College, but the Ephs picked up key victories at the right time to defeat the Spartans, 23-19, Friday night in a collegiate wrestling dual match at Lasell Gymnasium.

Castleton was forced to play catch-up from the start after forfeiting the 149-pound match and losing the 157-pound match by major decision to fall behind, 10-0. At 165 pounds, Jared Costa earned a major decision victory over Luke Anselmi, 9-0, and Zach Allen won the 174-pound match by pinning Carl Sangree 37 seconds into the third period to tie the match at 10-10.

Williams (7-10) took the lead for good with a major decision victory at 184 pounds and a pinfall at 197 pounds. Nick Scott earned a 2-0 decision victory over Sebastian Dziadkiewicz in the heavyweight contest, and then Tyreek Staton cut the Spartan deficit to four with a 7-5 decision win over Matt Morris in the 125-pound contest.

After a win by decision at 133 pounds for Williams, Zak Hale wrapped up the match with a 4-1 decision victory over Brendon Seyfried.

Castleton (11-14) begins preparing for two important competitions, starting with the NEWA Futures Tournament, hosted by Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I., next Sunday, Feb. 19.
