CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton completed the season sweep over the Green Mountain College Eagles this afternoon with an 8-1 victory in North Atlantic Conference play at the Castleton Tennis Courts.

The Spartans dropped just one point in doubles play to jump out to an early 3-0 lead before winning five of the six singles matches in straight-sets to record the win. With the victory, Castleton snaps its two-game losing streak and improves to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Eagles, meanwhile, drop to 4-3 on the year, including an 0-1 mark in the NAC.

Castleton got off to a fast start thanks to the team's strong doubles play. Seth Marcil and Kevin Rosset took the top-flight match by an impressive 8-1 score, followed by a perfect 8-0 victory in the No. 2 slot by Soren Pelz-Walsh and Quentin Barthe. Ryan Mulder and Trevor Hanna closed out the doubles games with an 8-0 win for their fifth victory of the year to give the hosts an early 3-0 lead.

The Spartans carried that momentum into singles play and captured five of the six games. Brody Wagner picked up his first collegiate victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the sixth-flight match, while Andrew Overton improved to 8-1 on the year with a straight-sets win in the No. 5 slot. Rosset captured the second-flight match with a 7-5, 6-3 result, followed by straight-sets victories in the No. 3 and 4 slots from Pelz-Walsh (6-1, 6-1) and Barthe (6-0, 6-1). Marcil suffered the lone defeat of the day with a narrow loss in three-sets (4-6, 6-3, 4-10) to 2015 NAC Player of the Year Connor Braden.

Castleton returns to action this weekend with a pair of NAC contests. The Spartan hosts Johnson St. on Saturday at 1 pm at the Castleton Tennis Courts before traveling to Lyndonville, Vt. on Sunday to face off with the Lyndon Hornets at 1 pm.
