TROY, N.Y. – Castleton men's tennis maintained its perfect start to the season with an impressive 9-0 victory this afternoon over the Sage Gators in non-conference play.

The Spartans didn't lose a single point, as they improved to 5-0 on the season for the first time since 2009 with their tenth straight victory over the Gators. Sage, meanwhile, drops to 0-2 on the year.

Soren Pelz-Walsh and Quentin Barthe took the first-flight doubles match, followed by a victory in the No. 2 slot from the tandem of Seth Marcil and Tyler Wilcox. Sage was short of players and had to forfeit the third-flight match to hand the away side an early 3-0 lead in the match.

The Spartans carried that momentum into singles play with straight-sets victories in five of the six matches. Marcil took the top-flight match to capture his second win of the year. Soren Pelz-Walsh improved to 4-1 with a win in the No. 2 slot, while Barthe, Andrew Overton, Wilcox and Brody Wagner closed out the contest with wins in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth-flights.

Castleton opens North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday at 1 pm when they host the Lyndon Hornets.
