Spartans Down Johnson St. 9-0

STOWE, Vt. – Castleton men's tennis maintained its perfect start to the 2016 season with a 9-0 victory over the Johnson St. Badgers in non-conference action this afternoon. 

The Spartans dropped just five points in the entire contest and swept the doubles games with perfect 8-0 scores to record their third straight victory. The Badgers, meanwhile, are now 0-1 with the losing effort.

After sweeping the doubles games, Castleton delivered an impressive display in singles action, with all victories coming in straight sets. Seth Marcil took the top-flight match 6-0, 6-1, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Kevin Rosset in the No. 2 slot. Soren Pelz-Walsh and Quentin Barthe recorded perfect, 6-0, 6-0 victories, while Andrew Overton and Ryan Mulder dropped just three sets in the fifth and sixth-flight matches to preserve the 9-0 score.

Castleton opens its home schedule on Wednesday when it hosts in-state rivals Norwich in Rutland, Vt. at 4 pm.
