CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton's men's tennis team suffered a tough loss in conference play this afternoon, as it fell to the Colby-Sawyer Chargers at Grand Slam Tennis in Rutland, Vt., 9-0.
The Chargers turned in a dominating performance by capturing all six singles games in straight sets while also sweeping the doubles games. The Spartans now stand at 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference with the loss, whereas Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-8 overall and remains perfect in the conference at 2-0.
Andrew Overton played a solid match in the fourth flight singles match, losing 7-5, 6-4. Kyle Martin, meanwhile, battled in the top-flight match before falling 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play, the Spartans lost the first two matches by the same score of 8-2 followed by an 8-1 defeate in the third-flight match.
Castleton returns to action this Thursday when it hosts the Lyndon St. Hornets in conference play at Grand Slam Tennis Rutland, Vt. at 4 pm.
