Bennington, Vt. - The Spartans took advantage of their superior depth, taking down MCLA 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at Bennington Tennis Center. The win marked Castleton's fifth victory in the past six matches.
Kevin Rosset, Mike Divis, Joshua Dower, and Matt Trombley all earned a pair of points for the Spartans. Rosset won at third singles in straight sets before teaming with Dower to earn an 8-1 win in second doubles. Divis and Trombley each won their singles matches handily before teaming for an 8-0 win in third doubles.
At first doubles, Mike Glaser and Adam McCaffery fought to fend off MCLA's Rob Wabshinak and Taylor Krowitz, forcing a tiebreaker at 8-8. The pair fell in the final tiebreaker 7-2, dropping the match 9-8.
The pair each grabbed revenge in singles play though. Each won a three-set marathon match, Glaser at first singles and McCaffery at the second flight, to ensure an 8-1 win for the Spartans.
Castleton improves to 5-2 on the year, including a 2-0 record in conference play. The Spartans will return to action Saturday, April 12 when they travel to Thomas in Waterville, Maine.
