Box Score 2 SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Castleton couldn't find any offense in the opener but made it interesting in its second game against Union, but was ultimately swept 10-0 (in five innings) and 9-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans managed just four hits in the opener but came back with ten in the second game as they dropped to 6-12. The Dutchwomen improved to 12-8 with their sweep.
In the first contest, Union scored five runs in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI double by Camille Corbin, an RBI single by Lindsay Cohen and an RBI double by Aimee Palleschi. The Dutchwomen tacked on five to win it in the fifth, as all five batters in the inning scored.
Alyssa Wolejko gave up four hits and no runs in the five innings while walking one and striking out six. Kayla Wood took the loss with nine hits allowed in four innings, and she struck out three.
Castleton found its offense in the second game as Tori Fearon reached on a bunt single and Jessica Babcock drove her home with an RBI triple.
In the second inning, Union scored four times, including a two-run homer by Corbin and a two-run double by Dani Hennel. Babcock drove in Cassidy Auger in the third to trail 5-2 but Union came back with a run in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-2.
Each team scored once in the fifth and Castleton added an unearned run in the top of the sixth to trail just 6-4. However, Union received a three-run homer in the bottom of the frame to put the game away, 9-4.
Allyson Staats got her fifth win of the season, and did not walk a batter while allowing two earned runs and striking out two. Katie Gagne took the loss in four innings with five hits and two K's.
Union racked up 11 hits in the second contest, with two each from Hennel, Staats, Corbin and Molly O'Brien. Babcock had three of Castleton's 10 hits while Tori Fearon added two to finish with three on the day.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they face Plymouth St. in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
