CASTLETON, Vt.- Director of Athletics Tim Barrett announced that Cassie Woods has been named the Head Softball Coach at Vermont State University Castleton.

"We are pleased to welcome Cassie Woods as our next head softball coach," said Barrett. "Cassie's enthusiasm and passion for the sport really shined through in her interview. We are confident she will positively impact our student-athletes and push our softball program to further heights."

Woods comes to Castleton after serving as an assistant coach at Regis College from 2024-2025. At Regis, she worked with the outfielders, assisted with recruitment efforts, and created, organized and executed fundraising initiatives. She also has coaching experience with travel ball teams from Connecticut previously coaching the 18u CT Green Devils in 2019 and the 18u CT Diamond Zone in 2021 and 2022 where she mentored and developed youth players.

"I'm most excited to begin building relationships within the program and the Castleton community," said Woods. "I'm looking forward to developing our players both as athletes and as people and contributing to the already competitive mentality the Castleton Athletic Department possesses". 

No stranger to the New England area, Woods is a 2020 graduate from Keene State with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science.  Woods then moved on to Eastern Connecticut State where she obtained her Master of Science in Accounting. She was a NFCA All-American in 2021 and 2022 and was the NCAA Division III leader in hits in 2022. The Warriors came in fifth place in the 2022 World Series. Woods then earned a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from Trine University. She was a part of the 2023 National Champion team and was a NFCA All-Region Selection.

"I was very much attracted to the chance to lead a program with such a strong foundation and to become part of the Castleton community," said Woods." I'm thrilled about the opportunity to build on the program's history while creating a culture that emphasizes growth, accountability, and success both on and off the field."
