Gorham, Maine - The Spartans fell for the second consecutive match, and were swept away by Southern Maine 9-0 in Gorham on Sunday. The Huskies earned their ninth straight win, their third consecutive victory over Castleton.
In doubles play, the first and second flights were dominated by the Huskies, with the home team winning 8-0 and 8-1 respectively. In the third doubles flight, Mike Divis and Matt Trombley fought hard to give the Spartans a point, but fell short dropping the match 8-5.
Singles did not go much better for the Spartans as they dropped all six flights in straight sets. Kevin Rosset and Kyle Martin each put up a fight, but only managed to win a few games in each of their matches. Rosset fell 6-3, 6-1 at third singles while Martin dropped his fourth singles match 6-2, 6-3.
Castleton falls to 5-4 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday when the team faces Green Mountain College in a North Atlantic Conference showdown. The Spartans downed the Eagles 7-2 earlier in the season.
